District is projecting a $27 million budget shortfall

From The San Francisco Chronicle: Nearly 500 teachers, aides and administrators in the San Francisco school district will find pink slips in their mailboxes within the next two weeks as the school board tries to deal with a project $27 million shortfall. If the state's worst-case budget scenario pans out and the layoffs hold, class sizes would go up and overall support for students would decline, district officials say. The board has voted to send notices to 140 teachers, nurses and counselors, 194 teacher aides and 139 administrators.
