Growth puts strain on Fairfax County (Va.) district

School system enrollment now tops 180,000
Sept. 6, 2012

From The Washington Post: Student enrollment in Fairfax County (Va.) schools has surged past 180,000 for the first time, a development that poses major logistical and academic challenges for the district. The growth has put a strain of the district's 1,500-bus fleet, and portable classrooms are mushrooming on campuses. Bailey’s Elementary School for the Arts and Sciences in the Falls Church area has 19 portable classrooms to house many of the 1,300 students on campus.
