District will receive $1 million in college scholarships

News release: The Aldine (Texas) Independent School District (AISD) has won the 2009 Broad Prize for Urban Education, the largest education award in the country, and as a result will receive $1 million in college scholarships, The Eli and Edythe Broad Foundation has announced.

APRIL 2009 news release: The Eli and Edythe Broad Foundation has announced the five finalists for the 2009 Broad Prize for Urban Education, an annual $2 million award that honors urban school districts making the greatest progress nationwide in raising student achievement. The finalists: Aldine (Texas) Independent School District; Broward County (Fla.) Public Schools; Gwinnett County (Ga.) Public Schools; Long Beach (Calif.) Unified School District; and Socorro (Texas) Independent School District.
