Judge rules for Illinois district on site selection

A judge has ruled in favor of the Indian Prairie (Ill.) School District and its decision to build the new Metea Valley High School off Eola Road in Aurora. DuPage County Judge Kenneth Popejoy has thrown out a lawsuit filed by the residents group Neighborhood Schools for Our Children. The group sought to block Indian Prairie from building the 3,000-seat school at any site other than on property at 75th Street and the future extension of Commons Drive in Aurora. After a eminent domain case over the land on 75th Street, a ruled that the district would have to pay more than twice what it had budgeted for that site. Instead, the district bought an 84-acre parcel off Eola Road for $19 million. But the neighborhood group contended said the new site is environmentally unsound because it is adjacent to a now-closed power plant.
