Subdivision in Detroit suburbs wants to change districts

About 265 residents of the Winding Creek subdivision in Macomb Township, Mich., are seeking to redraw district boundaries to move them from the New Haven district to the Utica district. Since 2005, there have been 22 similar requests in the Detroit area. Parents cite proximity, test scores and property values in making their requests, but some critics claim the requests are based on socioeconomics or race.
