Teachers union says New York City charter schools fail to serve enough of city's neediest

Charters need to serve more students that are poor or need special education, UFT says.

The union for New York City public school teachers says charter schools, as a group, are failing to serve a representative sample of the city’s public school children (PDF file). In the report, "Separate and Unequal: The Failure of the New York City Charter Schools to Serve the City's Neediest Students," the United Federation of Teachers calls for the state of New York to introduce more equity and outside oversight into the operation of charter schools.
