Utah schools struggle to attract and retain teachers

Large class sizes in many schools contribute to turnover

Retaining and attracting teachers in Utah, especially in math and science. Utah schools were 173 teachers short on the first day of school in 2007, according to a recent report by a University of Utah professor. Utah has some of the largest class sizes in the nation; union officials say large class sizes frustrate many new teachers, sometimes to the point of leaving the profession.
