Universities in New Orleans are expecting surges of freshmen for the fall semester, based on increases in the number of students who have made financial commitments to schools. EARLIER: As colleges and universities in New Orleans continue their recovery from Hurricane Katrina, the pace of repairs has differed from campus to campus. Southern University of New Orleans students are still in trailers because work on their Pontchartrain Park campus didn't start until the day after Christmas; Delgado Community College's City Park campus and the University of New Orleans are lively once again, and students are strolling beneath Dillard University's stately oaks. Students and faculty members have had to become accustomed to buildings that are still off-limits, and to workers and heavy equipment that are still at work restoring buildings such as Dillard's library and Delgado's Student Services Center.
