Galveston (Texas) schools reopen

Oct. 7, 2008
District has been closed several weeks because of Hurricane Ike
Galveston (Texas) schools, closed before Hurricane Ike hit the Gulf Coast last month, are ready to reopen. Superintendent Lynne Cleveland is hoping for 50 percent attendance today--about 3,500 students. Some children who were enrolled at heavily damaged schools will attend different schools, at least for a while. Because many students lost their clothing in the storm, the schools will relax the school uniform polices for the first two weeks of school.
