Grassroots coalition argues that the state doesn’t provide adequate education funding
From The San Francisco Chronicle: A coalition of grassroots groups and families have sued the state of California in an effort to overturn the state’s educational system. The groups argue that the system should be declared unconstitutional for failing to adequately and equally fund schools. The suit is the second filed this year over what plaintiffs say is a broken public school system -- one that leaves too many children with less than a fair shot at a good education. MAY 2010...from The Sacramento Bee: A lawsuit contends that California's system for funding public schools is irrational and prevents 6 million students from receiving the education they are entitled to under the state Constitution. The lawsuit, filed by a coalition of students, parents and education groups against the governor and the state, puts California on a growing list of states slapped with what lawyers call "adequacy" suits.
