Virginia student wins grant for helping school get rid of disposable lunch trays

Sophomore at Fairfax County high school draws up plan to reduce waste
From The Washington Post: A sophomore at Thomas Jefferson High School for Science and Technology in Alexandria, Va., has been awarded a $1,000 grant for devising a plan to replace disposable lunch trays at her school's cafeteria with reusable ones that will be cleaned by student and parent volunteers. The Planet Connect grant from the National Environmental Education Foundation will end the school's practice of throwing away 275 to 300 polystyrene trays each day.
