Mamaroneck (N.Y.) district comes back with smaller bond request

$22.1 million plan follows defeat of $38.1 million proposal

TheMamaroneck (N.Y.) School District is asking voters on May 19 to approve a $22.1 million bond proposal. The smaller request comes after voters rejected a $38 million proposal earlier this year. What remains in the proposal is replacing antiquated boilers at the Hommocks and Central School, replacing the original HVAC system at Hommocks and a portion of the system at Central, replacing the original single-pane windows at Hommocks and replacing and patching roofs at several schools.

FROM FEBRUARY 2009: The Mamaroneck (N.Y.) school district's $38 million capital projects bond referendum has failed by a slim margin. The tally was 2,180 in support and 2,260 against, according to district officials. Many opponents of the request said they objected to the inclusion of artificial turf fields and other athletic repairs in the proposal. The proposed athletic improvements included $7.7 million worth of new synthetic turf fields and a new track.
