Millions of dollars worth of planned college construction projects in Missouri that were to be paid for with money from the state’s student loan authority have been stopped. The college building program championed by former Gov. Matt Blunt, called the Lewis and Clark Discovery Initiative, depends on the receipt of $350 million from the Missouri Higher Education Loan Authority over six years. But because of the troubled economy, the student loan authority has not been able to keep up those payments.
