Donations to boost New Orleans universities

Three colleges receive grants form Carnegie Corporation.

The Carnegie Corporation of New York, one of the nation's foremost philanthropies, today is to award gifts totaling $11 million to help Dillard, Tulane and Xavier universities in New Orleans recover from Hurricane Katrina-related damage. All three universities say they will use their grants to recruit and retain teachers. The foundation also is giving $1 million to Teach for America to help increase the number of its instructors who will teach at New Orleans elementary and secondary schools.
