It has been a tough year for Detroit Public Schools. The district has had to close schools, weather a contentious teachers strike, face allegations of mismanagement and wage what is becoming an annual battle with the budget. But in the middle of those challenges were many success stories. Among the highlights are some high-performing schools, internationally recognized chess and robotics teams, and national math and science winners.
