Roads inadequate for Winter Haven, Fla., school site

Polk County (Fla.) district says it has nowhere else to build needed middle school.

The new south Winter Haven, Fla., middle school might be a roadblock for the Polk County School Board--literally. Roads south of Winter Haven are not up to the standards necessary to handle traffic from the school, and Polk County doesn't plan to improve them. But district officials said there's no where else to build schools for the thousands of children moving into new developments under construction and approved for the south Winter Haven area.
