L.A. district hires Gates Foundation official as second in command

Some speculate John Deasy could become the district's next superintendent
From The Los Angeles Times: John Deasy, 49, a top official with the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, has been chosen as second in command in the Los Angeles Unified School District, raising speculation that he in line to become superintendent within two years. The school board hired Deasy as deputy superintendent. From 2006 to 2008, Deasy was superintendent of Prince George's County (Md.) district, the nation's 18th largest district with 134,000 students. Before that, he headed the Santa Monica-Malibu Unified School District for five years.
