Agreement ends civil rights probe into the treatment some Somali students received

From The St. Paul Pioneer Press: The St. Cloud, Minn., school district must report to the federal government any future allegations of harassment against Somali students as part of a tentative agreement to end a civil rights investigation. St. Cloud Superintendent Bruce Watkins says all but the final details of the agreement had been reached with the Department of Education's Office of Civil Rights. The deal requires that the district make its schools more welcoming to Somalis. The Minnesota chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations had requested a federal investigation into alleged harassment of Muslim students at two St. Cloud high schools during the 2009-10 school year. In May 2010, the district's own investigation confirmed some allegations that Somali students were harassed by non-Somali students.
