Florida State University says 200 layoffs are necessary

School copes with $65 million budget cut

Florida State University will have to lay off about 200 employees because of a cumulative $65 million budget cut. FSU Provost Larry Abele says the university must consider closing departments and ending programs. He said the state holdback of 4 percent of this year's operating budgets will cost $13 million, on top of $22 million already cut and that $30 million more needed by FSU won't be provided in the fiscal year starting July 1.To read The Tallahassee Democrat article, click here.
