Bonds approved in 2 Missouri districts

Voters in two Jackson County, Mo., districts have school bond issues. Eighty-nine percent of voters in the Blue Springs School District approved an $86.5 million plan to add classrooms and make renovations across the district. The Grain Valley district’s $5.9 million bond issue will finance the first phase of a new middle school.

FROM JANUARY 2009: The Blue Springs (Mo.) school district is asking voters to approve an $86.5 million bond issue on Feb. 3. The money will pay for improvements at several campuses. Blue Springs High School will add classrooms to close gaps between buildings, making the campus more secure while keeping open its quadrangle. Cordill-Mason Elementary will nearly double in size. Those buildings and other schools will have driveways reconfigured, creating new main entrances, separating bus traffic from cars coming and leaving, to make dropping off and picking up students safer. The district will get rid of mobile units by making classroom additions and add new locker rooms, better security cameras and surveillance. To read The Kansas City Star article, click here.
