From The New York Times: New York City Comptroller John C. Liu has rejected a proposed $65 million contract to extend custodial services for city school buildings for one year, citing an unexplained increase of $20 million. The Department of Education has contracted with Temco Service Industries to provide custodial services and maintenance at schools and administration buildings since June 2007 at a cost of $45 million annually. The contract has been renewed twice since 2009 with no increase. “An extra $20 million on top of $45 million is an enormous amount of money,” says Liu.
