Administrators wanted to get an early gauge of next year's staffing needs
From The Houston Chronicle: In the Houston school system, 769 employees have informed the district they won't be returning next year and will receive a cash payment for making the early notification. The incentives — offered so district officials could get an early staff count for budget planning — will cost the system about $1.25 million, The incentive was as much as $2,500 for the most experienced employees.
