Construction begins for New Haven, Conn., community college

$198 million Gateway Community College facility set to open in 2012
From The Boston Globe: Construction has started on a $198 million campus for Gateway Community College in in downtown New Haven, Conn., to help address an enrollment boom. The facility will have 90 classrooms, 22 computer labs, a library, a cafeteria and bookstore, and other features. It's expected to be completed by September 2012. Gateway has more than 11,000 students.

FROM 2008: Gateway Community College in New Haven, Conn., is planning a new campus in the city's downtown. The project will consist of two four-story buildings with a total of 360,000 square feet of space, and is scheduled to be completed in 2012. It will have 115 classrooms, compared with 85 on the existing campus. In addition to general classrooms, there will be specialized rooms for music, science, nursing, and engineering. The project is being designed to achieve a gold LEED rating from the U.S. Green Building Council. The architect is Perkins+Will.
