West Ridge Elementary hopes to earn LEED silver rating for environmentally friendly design

News release: The Chicago public school system has opened West Ridge Elementary School to relieve crowding on the city’s far North Side. The 100,000-square-foot campus has pre-k/kindergarten classrooms, 24 standard academic classrooms, two multipurpose rooms, computer, science music and art classrooms, as well as a library/media resource center, a gymnasium, and a play area with playground equipment. The project cost about $41 million and was designed to receive a silver LEED rating.
