Katy (Texas) district installs tracking system for campus visitors

After a month-long trial run at three campuses, the Katy (Texas) district officials has installed the first set of 10 visitor tracking systems in its elementary schools. The system calls for visitors, including parents, to slide their driver's licenses into a scanner. The system then looks for a match to a sex offender database in the 48 mainland states. If there is no match, it prints a visitor's badge including the visitor's photo. If there is a match, an administrator is contacted and the appropriate measures are taken. All 27 elementary schools were to be connected to the system by the end of February, and 10 middle schools are to receive the system in March.
