Elementary building opens in Michigan City, Ind.

$23 million Pine Elementary replaces aging facility

From The News-Dispatch: The Michigan City (Ind.) Area School District has opened a $23 million Pine Elementary School to replace an outdated building. The 89,700-square-foot facility includes three academic houses or pods, each composed of classrooms for two grade levels, a special education room, and a computer lab. Play areas, as well as outdoor classrooms and activity areas, are within steps of each pod. The building has energy-efficient lighting, heating, and cooling powered by digital controls. The architect is Fanning Howey Associates, and the construction manager is Verkler. More from building's dedication ceremony.
