Study says student participation in college athletics has climbed in the last decade

As Title IX commemorates its 35th anniversary this month, a new study is likely to energize the debate over whether it has damaged men’s college athletics and caused the elimination of dozens of men’s teams. Three months after a group lobbying to reform the law contended there had been a sharp decline in men’s college athletic opportunities, the Women’s Sports Foundation has released statistics showing that the number of athletes, male and female, participating in college sports has increased in the past 10 years.
