New policy for athletes' head injuries in Chicago school

July 29, 2011
Injured students must get all-clear from physician or certified athletic trainer before returning to action

The Chicago school district has adopted a new policy for dealing with student athletes who have sustained head injuries. The injured student will be taken off the field and cannot return until getting an all-clear from a physician or a certified athletic trainer. If a licensed physician or trainer is not available, the student must be taken to a facility for appropriate medical care.
