Teens report that they consume water, fruit juice and milk more often than soda pop

Water, milk and fruit juice--not soda pop--are the drinks most likely to be consumed by high school students, according to a new survey, The Los Angeles Times reports. The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention says that in a survey last year of high school students, 72 percent said they drink a glass of water each day, 42 percent drink at least one glass of milk, and 30 percent drink fruit juices daily. Only 24 percent said they drank regular soda pop. However, when other sugary drinks such as sports drinks, sweetened coffee drinks or flavored milk were counted, almost 63 percent said they drank sweetened beverages daily. That's a drop from the late 1980s and early 1990s when 84 percent said they had at least one sweetened beverage a day.
