Detroit's next mayor should be given a strong hand in running a "broken" Detroit public school system, Michigan Gov. Jennifer Granholm says. Granholm envisions the mayor's role as being similar to those in Chicago, New York City and Washington, D.C., where mayors have significant influence over the schools.
