Green-cleaning push for Iowa schools draws critics

March 1, 2010
Some fear that mandates for environmentally friendly cleaning could cost too much
From The Des Moines Register: An effort to push Iowa schools to purchase environmentally friendly cleaning products has encountered resistance from some education advocates who say the plan will cost taxpayer money and lead to teacher layoffs. Schools would have to, at minimum, conduct an assessment regarding environmentally preferable cleaning products. Any district that hasn't opted out of the law would have to use the products beginning July 1, 2012. Advocates of the bill believe schools will find they can save money by using the products.
