New administrator gives first public speech on state of the district

In her first public speech on the state of the district, Detroit schools superintendent Connie Calloway says she will give teachers a way to improve instruction by tailoring the needs of the struggling school system to individual schools, classrooms and students. To do that, and make sure raising achievement is the cornerstone of the district's turnaround efforts, she is launching a computer data system to help teachers.
