Broad Foundation gives $2.5 million for New York City charter schools

Two charter groups will use grant to establish more schools

News release: Two New York City charter school management organizations – Uncommon Schools and the Success Charter Networkwill receive a total of $2.5 million in grants to support new and existing schools. The Eli and Edythe Broad Foundation is giving Uncommon Schools $1.5 million, much of which will pay for the opening of new schools in Brooklyn. By 2014, Uncommon Schools will grow to operate 33 schools, 20 of which will be in New York City. The foundation will give Success Charter Network $1 million over two years to support its existing four Harlem Success schools and to help open new schools in the New York City area. The network plans to open 40 new schools over the next 10 years.
