Girl uses medieval weapon to attack Gary, Ind., teacher

One student is injured when she intervened to protect teacher.

A 15-year-old freshman girl at Lew Wallace High School in Gary, Ind., brought a mace--a long wooden stick attached to a metal chain with a spiked ball on the end--to school Thursday and swung it at a teacher. She struck a fellow student who intervened. The victim, a 19-year-old senior, suffered cuts on her hand and thumb. School security detained the freshman and confiscated the weapon.
