Superintendent scales back earlier suggestion of closing or consolidating 17 campuses

From The Houston Chronicle: Houston school superintendent Terry Grier is proposing to close four elementary schools. Under the plan, McDade, Stevenson, Rhoads and Grimes elementary schools would close. Grier said he wanted to focus on the district's four smallest elementary schools: McDade, Rhoads, Memorial and Paige, which have fewer than 350 students. The plan would keep open Paige and Memorial and instead shut down Stevenson and Grimes. The proposal scales back the possibility Grier had raised earlier of closing or consolidating up to 17 elementary and middle schools.

Earlier...from The Houston Chronicle: Houston School Superintendent Terry Grier says he will study the possible closure or merger of about 17 schools with low enrollment. The school board had been scheduled to vote this week to close four small elementary campuses but Grier says he will postpone those decisions and develop a more comprehensive plan. The superintendent will look at elementary schools with fewer than 400 students enrolled and middle schools with fewer than 500 students.
