Charter school expansions would cost Philadelphia $139 million over 5 years
From The Philadelphia Inquirer: The charter school expansions approved by Philadelphia's School Reform Commission so far this year could cost the nearly insolvent district $139 million over five years. The district faces a budget deficit of as much as $282 million for the 2012-13 school year. The district's charter school chief, Thomas Darden, had said that the expansions would cost $38 million, but officials subsequently said that an error had been made and that $139 million was the true cost over five years.
