Los Angeles will seek tax increase to close budget gap

If voters approve parcel tax, district will collect an addition $95 million a year
From The Los Angeles Times: Los Angeles voters will be asked in June to approve a temporary $100-per-parcel annual tax to help support city schools, but Supt. Ramon C. Cortines warns that the increase still will not be enough to head off larger class sizes, teacher layoffs and, possibly, a shorter school year.
