$4.3 billion plan protects art and music programs

From The Miami Herald: Miami-Dade Schools Superintendent Alberto Carvalho has presented the School Board with his plan for a balanced budget -- a proposal that does not lay off any teachers, custodians, cafeteria workers or bus drivers. The proposed $4.3 billion budget also protects arts and music programs, while bolstering the school system's rainy-day fund. It does not raise locally levied taxes. Still, millions of dollars in cuts are necessary in Miami-Dade and a "small number'' of central office employees could lose their jobs, Carvalho says.
