Thomas Menino shifts views, says he wants low-performing schools converted to charters

From The Boston Globe: Boston Mayor Thomas M. Menino, who for years has expressed deep reservations about charter schools, has abruptly shifted course. He says he wants to turn the city's poorly performing schools into new charter schools. Menino will seek state legislation that would allow the city to bypass union approval and transform low-performing schools into "in-district" charter schools controlled by the mayorally appointed School Committee.
