Voters in the consolidated West Central Valley (Iowa) school district on have rejected a $13.3 million plan to build a new high school in Stuart and turn the old one into an elementary school. It was the sixth defeat in five years.

EARLIER: Five times the West Central Valley (Iowa) school district has asked voters to borrow millions for a new high school. Five times the answer has been no. A sixth bond referendum is set for Tuesday. The $13.3 million in bonds would pay for a new high school in Stuart and convert the existing facility to an elementary school. Officials say the 1935 high school is out of space. The project would have been significantly less expensive if voters had approved any of the previous five bond issues between September 2002 and June 2005. Tuesday's proposal is $5.2 million more than the most recent measure.
