St. Paul board approves district restructuring

From The Minneapolis Star Tribune: The St. Paul (Minn.) school board has approved a restructuring plan that would affect almost every school in the district over the next three years. Under the plan several magnet programs will end, citywide busing will be greatly reduced and many schools will be relocated by 2014. Administrators say the restructuring proposal will improve student achievement, cut $10 million from transportation and other programs, and bring in $22 million of revenue by recruiting more students to the district. But the NAACP and the African American Leadership Council argue that the plan potentially could resegregate schools.
