Two schools share campus in Metairie, La.

School for special education students relocated to elementary site.

Last year, Jefferson Parish (La.) public school officials moved Deckbar School and its students from their former campus in Old Jefferson to a vacant classroom building at Rudolph Matas Elementary School in Metairie. The mingling of the two student bodies on a single campus has had its share of challenges, but administrators say they are doing whatever they can to assure the safety and academic well-being of their respective students. Deckbar, which serves special-education students, needed a new home so its old campus could house the Patrick F. Taylor Science & Technology Academy.
