School district may buy Catholic high school campus in Las Vegas

Catholic diocese is moving its school to the suburbs.

A private high school's move to the suburbs might present the Clark County (Nev.) School District officials an opportunity to address the needs of its fast-growing inner-city population. The district and the Roman Catholic Diocese of Las Vegas are negotiating the sale of the Bishop Gorman High School campus to the school system. Bishop Gorman, the only Catholic high school in Las Vegas, is preparing to move to a new campus in the southwest Las Vegas Valley. District documents show that the building and about 10 acres of property have been appraised at $16 million. The district is considering using the facility to address crowding, either as a high school, elementary school or alternative school.
