Recovery district wants 11 kitchens to provide hot lunches for 30 schools.

The Recovery School District in New Orleans is pursuing an ambitious list of kitchen and restroom repairs this summer. It plans to use 11 kitchens--10 at schools, an 11th at an old state mental health facility--to produce hot lunches for more than 30 schools run or supervised by the state district. The kitchen and restroom program, one facet of a broad rebuilding program, is costing nearly $6 million and should be complete by the Sept. 4 start of class.
