Consultant says Pittsburgh should close 15 schools

Enrollment is projected to continue to decline over the next decade

From The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette: A consulting firm has recommended closing 15 school buildings in Pittsburgh. The proposal comes about three years after the board closed 22 schools -- 18 buildings altogether. The consultant projects that from fall 2008 to fall 2018, enrollment will fall by 15.9 percent, or by more than 4,500 students. This year's K-12 enrollment is 26,123.
