Five schools close in Charleston County (S.C.) district

Budget woes, academic performance were factors in decision

From The Charleston Post and Courier: Five schools in the Charleston County (S.C.) district have closed their doors for good. The school board decided in January to close Brentwood Middle, Charlestowne Academy, Fraser Elementary, McClellanville Middle and Schroder Middle to save money and to give kids better opportunities elsewhere. Most students and staff know where they'll be next year, but officials are less clear about what's going to happen to the empty buildings.
