From NY1: New York City's Panel for Educational Policy has voted to close and overhaul 24 public schools. The 24 closing schools will be reorganized over the summer, and all the principals and up to half of the teachers at each school will be replaced. The panel had been scheduled to act on 26 schools, but hours before the meeting, administrators had a change of heart about two schools, Queens' Grover Cleveland High School and Brooklyn's Bushwick Community High School. They will not go through a reorganization.
EARLIER....From NY1: Seven New York City schools that had been targeted for closing—one in Manhattan and six in Brooklyn—will now remain over after improved performance. The schools: Harlem Renaissance High School; Cobble Hill School of American Studies; IS 136 Charles O Dewey; Franklin D Roosevelt High School; W. H. Maxwell Career and Technical Education High School; Brooklyn School for Global Studies; and William E Grady Career and Technical Education High School. Officials say they still plan to close the 26 other schools that are on the closing list.
