A 15-year-old girl is in custody in connection with the stabbing of a fellow student during a fight at a Columbia, S.C., high school.

The Columbia State reports that the skirmish occurred around noon Monday at A.C. Flora High School in Richland County School District One.

The two girls involved had an ongoing dispute that escalated into a fight, authorities say.

The stabbing victim, 17, sustained serious injuries, police say.

The 15-year-old student has been detained and faces charges. It was unclear if the teen would be charged as a juvenile or an adult.
