Every student at 47 schools in the Los Angeles Unified School District will receive a computer device in the first phase of the system’s Common Core Technology Project Plan.
The school board has approved a $30 million contract with Apple Inc. to provide iPads to students for the 2013-14 school year to students at the 47 campuses. In addition to the computer tablets, the first phase of the district’s plan will provide storage carts and charging stations; and infrastructure, monitoring and mobile device management systems.
“The vote is another step forward in the district’s plan to equip every one of its students with a device by 2014,” says Jaime Aquino, deputy superintendent of instruction.
Apple Inc.’s bid was the lowest in price of the 13 firms seeking the contract and was scored the highest.
