The Denver school district is asking voters to approve a $466 million bond proposal to build new learning spaces, and renovate and maintain existing facilities.

The bonds would enable the 82,000-student school system to allocate $230 million for facility maintenance projects; $119 million to build six new schools; $78 million to renovate and expand existing schools; and $39 million to boost the district’s technology capabilities.

In addition to the bond proposal, the district is seeking a $49 million-a-year mill levy override.

If the bond is not approved, the district says it will need to use between $30 million and $50 million every year from the operating budget to help meet immediate and critical facility maintenance needs."

Voters in the district approved a comparable bond request—$454 million—in 2008.
